being a pest wins the day!

Mr. Know-it-All (below in the photo with me on the top of the empire state building), is always giving me advice, and sometimes unsolicited, but he really insists that when I follow up with someone I am being a pest. He says, “April you’re bothering this person and being a pest, if they don’t call you back they don’t want to talk to you.”  Sorry………. but not necessarily….Mr. Know-it-All.
They like me they just don’t know it yet.
Now I have had my share of people or persons rejecting me and not calling back or telling me they are not interested, (by the way, I hate that part of the job).  But some people WANT to be pursued.  I was just given a compliment the other day for being tenacious and a following up and the first thing I thought of was Mr. Know-it-All and I smiled. 🙂  Now we all know Mr. Know-it-All means well, but it doesn’t mean he is ALWAYS right.

Before you start thinking about how I might possibly be annoying I want you to know that I don’t like being a pest, or being persistent when someone doesn’t follow up with me.  Its not my style, I have to force myself to do it for the good of the company.  When you have persistence I have found it wins most of the time.

My dad always says being in business for yourself is like getting hired and fired every day.
That info really made me want to take over the business. I said, “Where can I sign up? Sounds like fun dad! Why didn’t you tell me this sooner? Lets get hired and fired today!”  I thought wow he must like drama, although he is not dramatic at all.  So now I take a look at being hired and fired as a challenge that I will be hired a lot more than fired.

I have been pursuing a variety of jobs and one in particular I have been working on for about 6 months of pursuing.  Its a great job!  I am doing the cabinets for 45 houses in Hollister. I am all hyped up about it and super nervous because I do not want to make any big mistakes.  I know mistakes will happen but I would like to prevent them any way I can.  I was given all the drawings back that I drew for the 3 house plans of cabinets approved and signed this morning.  Now I am on to the next step which will be ordering the cabinets and getting my calendar ready for delivery’s and installations.  The purchasing agent for this job told me “thank you” for being persistent and calling her to follow up, it got me the job!”

I really cannot believe this is happening.  I am so grateful and thankful.  Since I lost that job in Stanford (now is two years ago), I have been quoting a lot of jobs similar to that one and this one was picked for me!

Thank you all for your support and love throughout the years.  I am so grateful for you all!  I will keep you posted and hopefully have some great stories of how I can show Jesus’ love with this job.
And thank you Mr. Know-it-All for always challenging me and causing me to try harder. 🙂
